History

The Engineers Alliance for the Arts (EAA) was founded in 2000 by a group of leading San Francisco Bay Area structural engineers to introduce the world of engineering to the visual and performing arts, while supporting arts organizations in their endeavors. EAA decided to take a hands-on approach to education by placing professional engineers in public school classrooms to share their time, talent and technical engineering expertise. They would serve as mentors and engage students through an interdisciplinary curriculum that uses the visual arts as an entry point to the world of structural engineering. Presented in 2001 as a pilot program in two San Francisco Unified School District high schools, the project has grown annually and is critically acclaimed by students, educators, and administrators.

“Until EAA, I never considered a job in engineering or architecture, but now I’m caught making changes to my top colleges applications because I want to change my direction in life.”
